Should PS 14 Apply to Get a Comfort Dog? What Do YOU Think?
Dear PS 14 Community,
Our School Leadership Team (SLT) is comprised of an equal number of parents and faculty members. We meet monthly to collaboratively make decisions on behalf of our school.
This month (May, 2020) we are planning ahead to when we open our doors again. We want to have ways to support students and families who have experienced trauma and distress throughout this crisis. One idea that the SLT has is to bring a Comfort Dog into our school 3 days a week. Although there are many steps required by the DOE to obtain permission to bring a Comfort Dog into the building, we want to reach out to you, our families, early in this process to get your ideas, to hear your concerns, and to receive your feedback about your opinion on selecting a Comfort Dog for our school. This page is to keep you informed of the process, and it is also to allow you to share opinions and ideas with us throughout this process.
Here is a message from Ms. Benson.
First, here is a news report explaining a little bit about how Comfort Dogs already work to support students in some NYCDOE schools.
Also, here is an announcement from the Chancellor celebrating the expansion of the NYCDOE Comfort Dog Program. Do we want PS 14Q to be added to this list of schools?
Ok, so here is where you get to share your thoughts about getting a Comfort Dog at PS 14Q. Click this link to let us know your thoughts about this and/ or to request more information about this program.
